Consensus (ijmaa') and analogy (qiyaas) both come under the heading of evidence based on general principles on which shar'i rulings may be based. Consensus comes after Qur'an and Sunnah in the list of shar'i evidence. From a linguistic point of view, the word ijmaa' may refer to two things:
Relied more on Qiyas, The Ijma which are consistant with Quran and Sunnah, iv. Zaif and Mursal traditions; The difference between them is more of a degree than of nature.
What are the difference between ijma and qiyas? The primary sources, accepted universally by all Muslims, are the Qur'an and the Sunnah. It is however, in fields that they are silent that the secondary sources are to be used, thus the Ijma (consensus of opinion of scholars) and the Qiyas (laws derived through analogical deduction -analogy).
(Qiyas cannot be a basis for ijma'.)(26) It is not possible for ijma' to have validity unless it is on the basis of qiyas.(27) There is no material difference between the two cases. Since the two cases share the reason for the ruling, they share the same ruling. It is unquestionably prohibited for the guardian to burn or otherwise vandalize
What is the difference between ijma and Ijtihad? In islam|lang=en terms the difference between ijma and ijtihad. is that ijma is (islam) the consensus of the muslim community while ijtihad is (islam) the process of muslim jurists making a legal decision by independent interpretation of the qur'an and the sunna; such a jurist is a mujtahid.
Qiyas also means comparison - equality or similarity between two things. Example: Zaid compares with Khalid in intelligence and descent. Technically; Qiyas is an extension of a Shari'ah value from an original case (asl) to a new case, because the latter has the same effective cause (illah) as the former.
Al-Ijma' al-Sarih (explicit ijma'/ijma' qawli) - when every mujtahid expressed their agreement or opinion either verbally or by action. - Also by written agreement. - Being present in a single location is not a condition. - Majority ijma : definitive and binding - it is obligatory to follow.
